Biozentrum

The Biozentrum of the University of Basel is one of the leading life sciences institutes in the world – and you get to explore it in a guided tour. We will show you around the building and introduce you to four Biozentrum spin-offs.

The Biozentrum consists of 32 groups and 500 employees who research how molecules and cells create life, spanning the scale from atom to organism. Founded in 1971, the Biozentrum has been the birth place of many fundamental discoveries in biology and medicine, spawning several Nobel Laureates. State-of-the-art technology platforms support the research groups. The education and mentoring offered at the Biozentrum enables the next generation of scientists to tackle the important scientific questions in the field. The Biozentrum closely networks with national and international partners from the academic world and industry.

University of Applied Sciences & Arts Northwestern Switzerland

Get to know the School of Life Sciences in Muttenz. After an introduction to the school and its collaborations with the industry, we invite you to tour the modern campus and the state-of-the-art laboratories with us.

The School of Life Sciences offers Bachelor and Master programs with specialization in bio-analytics, cell biology, chemistry, chemical- and bio-process engineering, medical informatics, medical technology, pharma technology and environmental technology. It conducts applied research along the entire healthcare value creation chain. The spectrum ranges from the development of medical products and drugs, technologies and production processes to production and market launch. Another research focus is the development of resource-saving technologies and procedures to maintain and improve our environment. The process technology center is capable to scale-up chemical, fermentation and other processes.

The visit will start with a 30 min presentation, followed by a 50 min tour.

Tech Park Basel Tour

Get a behind-the-scenes look at the Tech Park Basel and gain insights into the diverse ecosystem of tech entrepreneurs.

More than 25 companies, 310 entrepreneurs, 40 nations, 6,700 m2 state-of-the-art office and lab space, and access to a unique ecosystem – that’s Tech Park Basel. Our tenants are early-stage tech companies that transform knowledge into marketable products and services. We offer a collaboration-friendly yet business-driven environment.

Our startup tenants have produced an impressive output: The number of jobs within these companies has increased tenfold, from 31 to 310 in the last ten years. Furthermore, despite the Covid-19 pandemic, various tenants were able to secure additional funding and achieve substantial growth: In total, tenants raised just under CHF 587 million in 2021 in published financing rounds, grants, awards and IPOs.

Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area Tour

Welcome to 50’000 m² of innovation space. Join the tour for a look behind the scenes and gain insights into the diverse life science ecosystem of the Basel Area. We will show you around the recently opened Main Campus of the Switzerland Innovation Park Basel Area and introduce you to exciting startups.

With over 700 companies, the Basel Area As is one of the most dynamic life sciences cluster in Europe – and the iconic campus is a meeting point for biotech and healthcare trailblazers. The landmark architecture by Herzog & de Meuron, developed by SENN, promotes exchange and offers an attractive and state-of-the-art working environment for startups, scaleups and established companies.

38 companies and institutions are working on Main Campus, e.g. University of Basel, Johnson & Johnson or Basilea. The Main Campus is located in the middle of the Life Sciences Mile in Bachgraben in close proximity to neighbors such as the Swiss Tropical and Public Health Institute, Skan, Abbott and Idorsia.

BioValley Dinner, BIO-Europe® Spring – 20 March 2023 at 20:00

Do you want to experience the culture of Basel? You are in for a treat!

We invite you to a “BioValley Dinner” on Monday 20 March 2023 at 8 pm. Your host is a member of the Basel life sciences industry. Hosts will open their homes to welcome 3 to 4 participants of BIO-Europe Spring for dinner and drinks.
Gain insights into the lifestyle and hospitality of the city of Basel in a friendly atmosphere.

Kindly note that places are limited and allocated to the first registrants.
A small gift for the host, in the form of a souvenir from your country is appreciated, but not a must.

  • Participants will receive the address of their host by email.
  • Dress code: same as at conference.
  • If you are unable to attend, please let your host know as soon as possible.

This initiative is organized by BioValley Basel, a local industry organization, with the support of Basel Area Business & Innovation and the Swiss Biotech Association.
